Las Vegas, Cuba and New York
In the autumn of 2012 “The Intrepid Six” set off for their second and most ambitious trip to date. Martin, Jenny, Heather and Rosie started in Las Vegas for two days before Geoff Allen and Geoff George met us in Mexico City in preparation for the flight to Cuba. After spending seven days in Cuba we travelled to New York before parting ways to continue with our individual travel plans. Heather & Geoff continued onto London, Martin & Jenny tasted wines in the Napa Valley and Geoff & Rosie went straight back to Melbourne.
Everywhere we went we managed to avoid a disaster. Las Vegas flooded for the first time the day after we left. We arrived in Cuba in the hurricane season but they went north and missed Cuba. Two tornadoes hit Queens for the US Open Tennis tournament a few days before we arrived. The Hanta Virus was rampaging in Yosemite National Park and five people died so we cancelled our bookings there and tasted a few wines in the Napa Valley instead. Even my camera, which I left in a taxi in Las Vegas, was found and returned to me in Napa.
