Sometimes we get inspired to record some of the more memorable days of trips that we have made. They serve to remind us of the things that we have done, the places we have been to and the people we have met and if we do not record them we tend to forget great chunks of the times we have spent away.
For those viewing these diaries we hope you find them interesting but they are more likely to be of interest only to our family and friends.

The journey from Biarritz to Mazamet took in Cambo les Bains, St Jean Pied de Port and Oloron Sainte Marie. Quite a journey in one day. We stopped off at Cambo les Bains to see Villa Arnaga but unfortunately it was shut until later that afternoon, but we didn't have time to wait! So we drove through some of the most spectacular countryside to St Jean Pied de Port. The Pyrenees were constantly on our right hand side and there was still plenty of snow on the peaks. St Jean Pied de Port was a pretty town and the starting point for many who want to walk, or cycle, El Camino de Santiago or The Way... + details

Without any planning at all we always seem to be in the right place at the right time and this Sunday was no exception. On the first Sunday of every month there is a concert of Basque music, singing and dancing just across the road from our hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful. The Basque language is indescribable with letters in unpronounceable combinations which... + details

The match between Castres and Aviron Bayonne was important for both teams. For Bayonne they needed to win to avoid relegation and Castres needed to win to maintain 4th spot and maintain their home ground advantage in the finals. We met Jean Jacques and Guy at La Concha restaurant in Anglet for a meal before the match. The restaurant is right at the mouth of the Adour river looking out to the Atlantic and is predominantly a fish restaurant. The wines were excellent and the food was very good. Everyone had grilled sole. I had not had a sole since I left England in 1965 and I remember having... + details

When we returned from Paris we had one day of rest and relaxation before traveling to Biarritz. Apparently it's where the beautiful people go so what on earth were Jenny and I doing there. Well the short answer is we wanted to see Castres play Bayonne in their last match of the season before the finals. More about the match later. The day we drove to Biarritz the weather was the worst we have seen in France. The rain was so heavy that there were times when we could only see a few metres in front of us. We had to stop in Toulouse to pick up the credit card we had left there on our way back... + details
